Job Summary
The WIC Nutritionist provides clients with information about the nutritional needs of children, infants, and women by providing nutrition counseling based on their specific needs. The WIC Nutritionist also promotes healthy food choices for families to ensure good eating habits and provides breastfeeding support and education for moms to help achieve their breastfeeding goals.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.  Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodations to be qualified for the position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

45% Client Services:
Schedules appointments, issues benefits, aids in food shopping and redemption, provides health screening diet assessment, referrals, collaborates with other programs for client services, assists WIC Nutritionist Assistant with client services.

45% Nutrition Education:
Schedules nutrition contacts, provides nutrition counseling, education, documentation, follows nutrition related policies, procedures, runs and utilizes nutrition reports.

10% Breastfeeding Services:
Provides breastfeeding education, promotion, support, documentation, and referrals, issues breast pumps, completes breastfeeding training, follows breastfeeding related policies and procedures.

0-100% Emergency Response:
Other duties as assigned (ie: emergency response).

Minimum Education Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements:
  • Associate’s Degree in Nutrition required, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics preferred.
  • WIC experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) is required for applicants with Associate’s Degree in Nutrition.
  • Lactation Certification preferred, may obtain after hire.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Qualifications
In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential.
 
  • Knowledge of nutrition programs, and Federal and State rules affecting programs.
  • Knowledge of the nutrition care process and ability to implement effective nutrition services to participants.
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding and ability to provide basic breastfeeding counseling and education.
  • Ability to effectively implement program guidelines, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and interact effectively with co-workers, and the public. 
  • Ability to apply nutrition counseling skills in group and one-to-one settings, in-person, phone, or video, etc. 
  • Ability to perform anthropometric measurements on infants, children, and adults and perform finger stick blood draw.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
  • Ability to maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a culturally sensitive manner.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Periodic periods of standing or walking.
Work Environment

This position may be asked to work out of both Washington and Ozaukee County offices. This is not a remote position.
